Optómetras Picó, Tort y Gorbea is the only group
practice in Puerto Rico
that offers the full scope of Optometric vision care to people of all ages,
from babies to the older population.
Each patient goes through a complete vision and eye health
assessment. The functional evaluation will take into consideration the patient's
occupational, academic and recreational needs. Conventional and alternative
treatment options are discussed, and orientation is offered on ways to stimulate
the visual well being, including nutrition and relaxation techniques.

Dr. Carmen Suarez Castro graduated from the Southern
California College of Optometry in California in 1986 and continued her
education completing a one year residency program in Low Vision at the Los
Angeles Veterans Administration VA Center, affiliated with Southern California
College of Optometry. After completing her specialty in Low Vision, she returned
to her hometown, Puerto Rico, and established the first Low Vision Center in the
island. Due to the fact that technology has been a part of this new era, Dr.
Suarez established the Assistive Technology Department in order to evaluate and
provide technological alternatives to those visually impaired.
Dr. Carmen Suarez Castro served as faculty at the Interamerican University of
Puerto Rico- School of Optometry from 1986 to 1990 where she taught the Low
Vision course , the lab and directed the Low Vision Clinic.
Since 1989 Dr. Suarez Castro has been very active in the department of Special
Education performing the low vision evaluations to the students registered with
visual impairment. She also serves as resource for Vocational Rehabilitation and
the Hermansky-Pudlack Chapter in Puerto Rico.
Optometrics/PR Low Vision Center offers a complete Low Vision Service. Our
clinic was established in 1989 by Dra. Carmen Suarez Castro soon after
completing her doctorate and a postgraduate residency in Low Vision from
Southern California College of Optometry.
